This is a blog intended for family and friends of our sister, Karen 'buzie' Goff. She was in a motorcycle accident on May 25, 2006 while on her way to visit our father in NC. We hope to post regular updates for family and friends on Buzie's current condition. Keep positive thoughts in your mind and heart for her!

today's neuro check-up

hey all:

just talked to dad around 2:00pm after he and mom returned from her neuro check-up at st. vincent hospital. the ct scans looked good...all the swelling is gone. still some signs of the bruising, but that will heal with time. the dr. also said that mom's skull is healing properly. in approximately 2-3 more months it should be healed completely. occasionally, after doing brain surgery on a patient, the dr. will have to go back in to re-allign the skull. it's just like a bone...have to make sure it heals straight!!

while in the neuro check-up, the dr. had mom walk around and answer some questions as well. he said she was right where she should be. although (as usual) he couldn't paint a detailed picture of mom's recovery, he was positive about her progress thus far. from a medical standpoint, she's doing just fine! a side note...when he was done examining her, he looked at her and said, "do you know what we call you, karen? a walking miracle, that's what."

at times, it's easy to harp on the negatives of mom's situation....but that dr. is right. she is on the way to recovering from an injury that has taken others' lives. i thank my lucky stars each and every day that mom has pulled through this injury and continues to progress all the time. keep the faith! we'll get there eventually :)

keep thinking positive thoughts and, as always, thanks to all for the continued love and support!

much love,

Sorry it has taken me this long to post. Steph, your perspective and strength is commendable, but not surprising considering you are a product of your mom! I've never met two tougher people -- people that take everything this world offers as a challenge, and never doubt their ability come out on top.

It's been great to read the good news every day, and to see that Mrs. G's core support group -- her family and friends -- have been the pillars of strength that she needs. It will certainly be a long battle back to normalcy, but I've always had faith that if anyone can get through something like this, it's Mrs. G.

I've said it before, but I'm happy to repeat it: couldn't be happier to be a part of a family that's so loving and supportive! Keep fighting to good fight Mrs. G...

So glad to hear things are progressing at a good pace. Buzie is so strong and I pray for her daily. I love reading the updates and almost feel her frustration.
I look forward to meeting this wonderful husband of hers, he sounds like a gem. No wonder Buzie speaks so highly of him!
Love to you all. Keep up the postings Patti,Cathy and Stephanie. It keeps my spirits and hopes up.

Steph, Your news is wonderful! She does indeed have that Finlayson strength and sense of purpose. We think of her every day and hope to see her very soon, as soon as it is the right time. Love you and appreciate your "reporting."

Love, Grampa and Ellen
