Karen Zoe Goff

This is a blog intended for family and friends of our sister, Karen 'buzie' Goff. She was in a motorcycle accident on May 25, 2006 while on her way to visit our father in NC. We hope to post regular updates for family and friends on Buzie's current condition. Keep positive thoughts in your mind and heart for her!

one step forward....two steps back.....

hey all:

just wanted to update everyone on what's going on. mom's discharge date was pushed back until next tuesday/wednesday. we're waiting for insurance approval...but she didn't go home today and the absolute earliest she'll go home is saturday.

her team of therapists agreed in their team meeting yesterday that mom's progress has slowed in the past week. mainly, her attention, short term memory, and awareness are not improving as quickly as they'd like. bottom line: they have to change some things up to get the ball rolling again. the neuros and doctors are working on changing her medications around so as to get her going again. sorry if this doesn't make sense...to be honest...it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me either! but i suppose that's why i'm not a neuropsychiatrist. since they're messing with her medications, they obviously don't want to send her home just yet. it's sort of a trial and error process, so they want to be able to observe her over the next week while they try some different things.

on the bright side, the agitation and emotional bouts have subsided in the past week. mom is in good spirits, remains physically strong and is eating well! you go girl...we are so proud of how far you've come in just three short months!!

it's so important during these trying times to stay positive and pray...a lot! mom can get through this hump, just like she's gotten through all the other bumps in the road so far. however, we have to be patient and have faith in all the good doctors, nurses and neuros working tirelessly on mom's case. because of the severity of her injuries, her brain is delicate and sensitive to change. it won't be too much longer until she's home! we just have to be glad that they're not willing to send her home until she's absolutely ready!

keep hoping and praying. she needs it now more than ever!

much love,

Livestrong for Buz!

Steph and I have been talking about (started while talking about her triathalon) embroidering Buzie's name on sweat bands for her big race or for Taekwondo. Then I found a website that makes those 'cool' rubber bracelets similar to the 'Livestrong' one Lance Armstrong wore during last year's Tour de France. Then I thought "Maybe everybody who reads the blog would likeone???"

I think it will be a nice way to really focus some thoughts on Buz and Jeff and those that are on the front line of her recovery as well as mark the date of her homecoming and transition to the next phase of recovery. We are all thinking of Buzie each day, and it would be nice to look down and see the bracelet as a reminder that none of us are alone, even though we are scattered across the country, and we are all praying for her full recovery.

No minimum order and they have tons of colors and you can customize them anyway you like. Of course I'm thinking PURPLE with Karen Zoe Goff on one side and I'm open to suggesitons for the other side. I am hoping to take orders for the next week and look to place the final order before Labor Day. Let's say.....August 24th. the bracelets will cost about $3 each and I will pack them in little padded envelopes and mail them out (+$2). So, if you are interested, please email me your NAME, MAILING ADDRESS and QUANTITY.

Send email to:

and put "Livestrong Buzie" in the subject line, or else I might delete it as spam!
